A Guide to Dry Herb VaporisersPublished on Vape Advice
Did you know that vaping is not just performed through the use of electronic cigarettes? We are proud to sell a brilliant selection of dry herb vaporizers, including some that accommodate concentrates too.
What is a vaporizer?
A vaporizer is a device designed to warm up a selection of ingredients until they turn into vapour to be inhaled. Unlike the traditional method of burning the ingredients, vaporizers produce vapour and not smoke. There are many substances that can be used in vaporizers and can have therapeutic benefits.
The vapour maximises properties in the substances used creating a purer aroma than what can be produced from smoking. Vaporizers come in many forms using a number of different materials like glass, ceramic or metal. Once heated the vapour can be extracted into a bag, pipe or hose for inhalation.
Where did vaporizers originate from?
In the modern world, vaporizers are often attributed to Eagle Bill Amato who was dubbed the 'Father of Vapour' for his invention of the 'Shake and Vape' - a glass pipe that was lit at the end of the bowl creating indirect heat for the compound above. Once heated enough, the user would shake the pipe to create more steam and then inhale the resulting vapour.

This form of vaporization was used by the Native Americans. But they were not the only culture of our past to use vaporizers. In fact, it can be traced as far back as Ancient Egypt, where the Egyptians would stand on beds of hot stones with plants and seeds on top and allowing the vapour to engulf them.
The hookah (aka shisha) can also be attributed to vaporizers and dates as far back as 1000 years ago, in India. The process is slightly different where hot coals are used to heat up the chosen compound which is inhaled through the hose on the hookah by the user and cooled down by the bowl of water at the bottom. The hookah/shisha is used with burning hot coals and cool water to create a vapour to be inhaled.
Why are modern day vaporizers better?
Technology has allowed us to advance in many of our human activities and the last few decades have seen a tremendous amount of innovation in the use of electronic vaporizers. Users seek the best vape possible and the modern day vaporizers produce some of the purest vapour we've ever seen before.
What substances can you use in a vaporizer?
Tobacco can be used with vaporizers and can be seen as a healthier alternative to smoking it. Vaporizers are often attributed with the use of 'weed' (Cannabis) and these devices are very commonly used with this plant in places like Amsterdam, Colorado and California – where the plant is legal or available under medicinal prescription. We now stock CBD flowers (buds) at our London stores which are perfect to use with dry herb vaporisers. CBD flowers are free of THC and Psychoactive effects, so you will not feel 'high' but there are reported to be many therapeutic properties to using CBD.
There are a number of plants and herbs used in vaporizers in the UK that are completely legal and are said to produce a host of beneficial properties. We suggest you do your own research on aromatherapy, but here is a list of some of the substances that are enjoyed in vaporizers in the UK:
- St John's Wort
- Lemon Balm and many, many more...
Traditionally most vaporizers are dry-herb vaporizers but some of these devices now incorporate the use of waxes and oils too.
How do you use a vaporizer?
The variety of vaporizers vary in usage but on a basic level of function, the user would place their herb of choice in the designated chamber, select the temperature for heating (temperature levels can affect what is released from the compound) and inhale the vapour once ready.
Which vaporizer is right for me?
If you are considering a purchase of a vaporizer you may be asking yourself which one is right for you...
Portable Vaporizers are for those who are looking to vape on the move. Whether it is at a festival, in a park or something that is easily transportable and rechargeable.
Portable vaporizers may not be as strong as their Desktop-style brothers, but the demand for portable vaporizers has grown massively in the last few years. Today there are some superb quality portable vaporizers that can compete in terms of vapour production.
DaVinci IQ vaporizer at vape emporium One of the best portable vaporisers for this year is the impressive Da Vinci IQ - using Smart Path Technology, the user can create the perfect vape via the device or from their smartphone using the DaVinci App available on iOS and Android. The DaVinci uses a Ceramic Zirconia Air Path chamber that maximises flavour, whether left empty or filled. This device delivers a quality vaping experience that easily rivals its competitors.
Pax 3 alternatively, you could own the new Pax 3 - we dubbed the Pax 2 as the King of Vaporisers but its successor is the Emporer! Now supporting concentrates as well as dry herb, the guys at Pax have also included the multi-tool and a reduced oven size in with the pack to give you everything you need to have an enjoyable vape experience. Not only does the Pax 3 heat up faster, it also has a bigger battery for longer performance and is compatible with your smartphone via the Pax app available on Android or iOS devices.
The heat up time has been massively reduced. The Pax 2 took 45 seconds to heat up for Vaping fun but now you just have to wait 15 seconds - and the Pax 3 will even vibrate to let you know it's ready for you to enjoy with the new Haptic Feedback feature.
What about the battery? It's been upgraded to a 3500mAh battery for a longer vaping time. The latest battery technology means the Pax 3 powers the oven x2 to the strength of the older model.
You can buy the Pax 3 Vaporiser from our UK vape stores in London or from our online store. We offer the Pax 3 Complete Kit that contains the Pax maintenance kit, multi-tool, oven screens and mouthpieces. Or alternatively, for a lower price, we also sell the Pax 3 Vaporiser Basic Kit.
A third and a final alternative would be the Grasshopper. At a more affordable price range, the Grasshopper looks more like a pen to write your memoirs than for vaping purposes. However, don't let the looks of this portable vaporiser deceive you. The Grasshopper is of near complete metal construction and really delivers a quality vape despite its small size. This is the ultimate stealthy vape pen for on the go, and we doubt you could find anything better.
Desktop vaporizers are for the stationary vaper, who would prefer to use their vaporizer in the comfort of their own home, and usually, requires the device to be connected to the mains.
The most famous Vaporizer is the Volcano – produced in Germany by Storz & Bickel. The device offers a pure vape experience like no other – the vapour is collected in a bag/balloon function which is then detached and ready for the user to inhale.
